Welcome to Hounds of Gray

Welcome! I’m a small, independent Whippet breeder based in Montreal Quebec, working under the mentorship of Kelly Chafe of Wunder Whippets. Hounds of Gray is my passion project built slowly, with intention, curiosity, and a lot of love.

Whether you’re a seasoned sighthound person or just Whippet-curious, I’m glad you’re here. I raise my dogs in the middle of the city, right in the hustle and bustle of real life, and my goal is simple: sound, sweet, structurally beautiful Whippets who can turn it on in the field and still nap like pros.

Why I'm doing this

Breeding Program

I’m a small, independent breeder—which basically means I’m not in this for volume, ribbons, or reputation. I’m here because I fell head over heels for this breed, and I want to do right by it. I’m being mentored by Kelly Chafe of Wunder Whippets, and I’m taking my time to do things properly—from health testing (yes, OFA and echo) to nerding out on Whippet Archive over bloodlines. I want to make Whippets that are beautiful, functional, and maybe just a little easier to live with.

That’s the big dream. In the short term, I’m focused on structure—smoother transitions, tighter feet, stronger fronts—without overbuilding or losing balance. But I care just as much about brains and behaviour. I want dogs that hunt with their hearts and sleep under your desk. Dogs with prey drive and recall. Dogs that don’t panic when you leave the house for ten minutes. I’ve met a lot of incredible Whippets, and a few that made me think we could do better. So here I am, trying to do better.

The Hounds of Gray

Oliver

Oliver was bred by Wunder Whippets in one of their early litters, and while he came to me as a companion, he ended up being the start of everything. His sire, Oscar, was imported from Portugal—bringing brawn, beauty, brains, and an incredible temperament to the line. His dam, Paris, was equally special, combining some of the strongest Canadian bloodlines into a litter that turned out to be a rainbow of brindles. Many of Oliver’s littermates went on to make their mark in rings across North America. I got the best one—at least in my opinion.

He may not have a big trophy shelf, but Oliver rewrote the rules for me. I’d read that Whippets have terrible recall and need to be leashed at all times. Not this guy. Even as a puppy, his recall was rock solid—and so is his temperament. He’s fast (like, very fast), has excellent prey drive, and loves a chase—but he’s also calm, sweet, and relaxed most of the time. Smart, sensitive, and steady, Oliver is the reason I fell in love with it.

Eleanor

I waited for Eleanor for years. I met her sire, Magnus, and dam, Vixen, on visits to Wunder Whippets and knew in my gut that I had to wait for those two to come together. Magnus is one of the most magnificent dogs I’ve ever laid eyes on—typey, balanced, and exactly what a Whippet should be. Vixen? A whole other level. She’s stunning, yes—but her grit and spirit are what make her unforgettable. After a serious accident early in life, Vixen had to have a leg amputated. And yet she kept running, kept moving, and eventually proved strong enough—mentally and physically—to carry and raise a litter. That litter turned out to be breathtaking, and I was lucky enough to get the foundation bitch I’d been dreaming of.

Eleanor is all heart. She’s sensitive, intuitive, and able to bring a room down to a calm hum just by existing in it. People meet her and say, “Is she always this sweet?” Yes. Yes, she is. But don’t be fooled—she’s also a serious athlete. She ran 10Ks with me before she turned two and once powered through a surprise 30K mountain hike without missing a beat. Her first litter was born in 2025, and she was a natural—devoted, attentive, and unfazed by eight hungry puppies. She’s inherited so much from her dam, and I see it in her every day.

Eleanor's First Litter Is Here

This is my very first litter. It’s been in the works for years—lots of waiting, learning, planning, and then waiting some more. When the stars finally aligned, I bred Eleanor (my foundation bitch) to Win, a gorgeous Italian import with the kind of structure, temperament, and presence I’d been holding out for. Both dogs were health tested ahead of time, and this pairing was done with real intent: I wanted balance, beauty, and brains—and I’m really proud of what’s landed in the whelping box.

A few puppies may still be available to approved companion homes. If you think you might be a good fit, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to answer questions, talk through my process, or just hear about what you’re looking for in a Whippet. No fancy applications or gatekeeping—just a real conversation.
